Yummy and Nutritious

We are releasing a 21 day family devotional guide at Grace Park this Sunday that has been written by our pastoral staff. Each devotional has a Scripture reading, a short devotional, some questions to ask, and a blessing to state. Each week of the devotionals follows Grace Park’s mission statement: We exist to Know God, Grow with His family, and Show His love to the world. So, this week’s theme is knowing God. I will post my week’s devotionals each week as they are approaching release. Enjoy!

*UPDATE — The Family Devotional Guide has been such a success that the staff at Grace Park has decided to continue to do them indefinitely. You can get them here –> Family Time Devotions

Yummy And Nutritious

Psalm 119:97-104

97 Oh how I love your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies,
for it is ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
for your testimonies are my meditation.
100 I understand more than the aged,
for I keep your precepts.
101 I hold back my feet from every evil way,
in order to keep your word.
102 I do not turn aside from your rules,
for you have taught me.
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I get understanding;
therefore I hate every false way.

Devotional

God’s Word, the Bible, is not something written for us to just follow. It is not just a set of rules. It is not just a statement of what is right and wrong. It is not just something that we HAVE to read or HAVE to follow. It is not something that weighs us down. It is so much more than all of this.

God’s Word, the Bible, is something that helps us in times of need. It is something that shows us the absolute best way to live – God’s way. It is the guide for our most fulfilling life on earth. It is the guide that shows us the Way to life after this time on earth is gone. It frees us from the weight and burden of living for the things of the world. It frees us from the guilt and shame of our past sins. It protects us from hurting ourselves and others with future sins. It gives peace when in despair. It lights a way when darkness is all around. It puts a smile on your face when all you want to do is frown. In it is Life.

God’s Word, the Bible, is sweet. It tastes good. It is not like broccoli or spinach that you HAVE to eat to be healthy. It is like a birthday cake that is good for you. It tastes so good and is more nutritious than all of the vegetables combined.

We need God’s Word, the Bible, because it is good for us, but not only that…but because it tastes so good too. It tastes good because it shows us that God loves us. The same God that we turn away from and sin against loves us. He loves us so much that from the beginning He planned to come and die for us. We need His sacrifice, and we love His sacrifice.

God’s Word, the Bible…it is good for us, and it tastes so good.

Questions

– If you could pick any food to be nutritious and good for you, what would it be?

– Why does the Bible not always seem “sweet” to us? Should it? Why?

– What can we do to “eat” more of God’s Word?

Blessing

You are created in God’s image, and God’s plans for you, according to the sweetness of His Word, are good.

  1. Good job, Jacob! Thanks for sharing : ) So if YOU could pick any food that would be good and nutritious for you, what would it be? I think mine would be fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies (which I am making for Amy’s birthday tomorrow without even tasting the dough!) I am glad ya’ll are doing these family devotions for our church – thank you!!!

    1. If I could pick any food to be nutritional, it would have to be chips. No specific kind, but every kind. I could literally each chips all day.
